By appearances the concrete pavement anchored on one side by its run down slab bleachers is no different than any other basketball court in the city but this is the place where nicknames are indelibly branded and legends are born. On September 1st 2006 the top 24 high school basketball players in the USA stepped out on this court that once saw the likes of Wilt Chamberlain Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Dr. J to compete in the first annual 'Elite 24' all-star game. Gunnin' for that Number 1 follows eight of these players as they prepare to showcase their skills at the most legendary playground in the world. Directed by Adam Yauch (MCA of the Beastie Boys and Director of 'Awesome; I F***ing Shot That!') the documentary trails these players on the fast track to the NBA as they are being groomed to be in the spotlight of a multi-million dollar game. Combining Yauch's unique directing style with raw hip hop music Gunnin' for that Number 1 Spot highlights these soon to be NBA All Stars.

Before HD there was Super 8; before Independent film there was Underground Cinema and in the late 1970's and 80's downtown Manhattan was the epicentre of a new kind of explosive raw and confrontational filmmaking that bore witness to the rising East Village art and No Wave music scenes and the birth of hip hop. Filmmakers such as Jim Jarmusch Beth B Lizzie Borden and Amos Poe captured New York's gritty vibrance with dissonant tales and deadpan humour. Blank City tells their story and succeeds in capturing the glorious and grungy creative energy of another age illustrated by extraordinary footage of their early work and the derelict landscapes of the Lower East Side. Interviews with Jim Jarmusch John Waters Steve Buscemi Debbie Harry Fab 5 Freddy Thurston Moore and Lydia Lunch explore how a group of young visionaries pooled resources to create a DIY film movement that had a major influence on independent film today. Since the late 80s Londoner Marc Mac has been converting audiences with his sophisticated take on urban soul. A hybrid concoction of breakbeat nu-jazz neo soul drum and bass and Hip Hop its a polished sound plugged directly into the emotional highway of 21st century city living. While recording this new Visioneers record Mac began thinking how hip-hop had been a (sometimes invisible) guiding hand in his life. The music the fashion and culture. Although producing all kinds of music from jungle to jazz hip-hop (or at least what is was) has always been a part of what I do in some strange and sometimes very subtle way. Hipology; the album includes hand picked guest John Robinson Notes To Self TRAC & Baron alongside some featured musicians Luke Parkhouse Ariya Astrobeat Arkestra & The Support Horns. The result is a real cool funky eclectic mix of breaks beats soul/jazz and freaky squeaks a great follow up to the debut album.
