Hip Hop Artists

The music genre of hip hop developed as part of the culture hip hop. It has four key stylistic elements rapping, sampling, beatboxing and Djing. It all began in the 1970’s in South Bronx of New York City. Here are just three artists of the very popular music genre Hip Hop.

2pac

2pac’s real name was Tupac Amaru Shakur and was also known as Makaveli, he was born on June 16, 1971 and died on September 13 1996.

In the United States 2pac sold an amazing 37.5 million records, worldwide he sold over 75 million albums. This made his one of the best selling music artists in the world. A lot of 2pac’s lyrics are about his life or social problems.

2pac died in the University Medical Center after being shot four times in the Las Vegas metropolitan area.

Eminem

Eminem (his stage name) was born October 17, 1972. His real name is Marshall Bruce Mathers, as well as being a rapper, ranked the 79th on VH1 100 Greatest Artist of All Time; Eminem is also a record producer and an actor. He played a character similar to himself in a film called 8 Mile but stated it was not about himself, it was a representation of growing up in Detroit.

His second album, Marshall Mathers LP, was recorded as the fastest selling solo album in the US.

Jay-Z

Jay-Z (real name Shawn Corey Carter) is one of the most successful Hip Hop artists in America. He is also known for his skills in business, being a very successful entrepreneur, he’s had a net worth of over $450 million in 2010. He has received ten Grammies for his involvement in music and sold approx 50 million albums worldwide. Jay-Z is the husband pf R&B superstar Beyonce, they married on April 4, 2008.
